P.G. 600 has been sold since 1990 for inducing estrus (heat) in prepuberal gilts and is approved for inducing estrus in sows experiencing a delayed return to estrus after weaning.

P.G. 600 stimulates estrus by mimicking the naturally occurring reproductive hormones, FSH and LH.  The biological ingredients in P.G. 600 include a combination of hormones - 400 I.U. of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) and 200 I.U. of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).

P.G. 600 can be used as an effective tool to help keep sows on cycle and complements artificial insemination, all-in/all-out breeding, and early weaning programs. The results are increased reproductive performance and reduction of nonproductive days in the breeding herd.

Sows experience anestrus (failure to return to heat) for a number of reasons.  The most likely causes are parity, summer heat stress and seasonality.

  • Sows treated with P.G. 600 at weaning are nearly two times more likely to return to estrus within 3-7 days than untreated sows.
  • Sow herds treated experienced 42% less anestrus, compared to untreated controls.
  • First parity (P1) sows treated with P.G. 600 are four times more likely to cycle within 7 days.
  • Research showed 46% more effective in returning sows to estrus within 7 days during hot weather months.
